The Karibu coffee from Coffee Circle is a blend of coffee beans roasted together from three different origins. The coffee beans from Brazil, Kenya and Ethiopia produce a harmonious taste reminiscent of dark chocolate and cinnamon when medium roasted at a final temperature of 212 degrees Celsius. The sweetness of the Ethiopian coffee beans combined with spicy notes from the Brazilian coffee is crucial. There are also subtle fruity notes from the Kenyan beans in the finish. Overall, the coffee tastes pleasantly intense.
The name comes from the expression "Karibu", which means "welcome" in Swahili, and is based on Coffee Circle's trading relationships with farmers from Kenya. The coffee beans used come from Kenya, from the Thiririka cooperative in Kiambu, where several thousand farmers plant various Arabica varieties at an altitude of 1800 meters and wet-process the harvested coffee cherries. Coffee Circle sources the Brazilian component of the Karibu from the small APAS cooperative in Mantiqueira de Minas. The green coffee used from Ethiopia comes from the Geta Bore cooperative in the region around Agaro in the west of the country.
Coffee Circle demonstrates a high level of social awareness. In addition to the comparatively high purchase prices that the farmers receive in direct trade, the Berlin-based company invests €1 per kilogram of coffee sold in social projects in coffee regions in Africa and South America.
