The Reneka Family Home 1G is a portafilter machine with a dual circuit system. However, the machine from the French manufacturer stands out from other dual circuit machines both in terms of its design and technical innovation. The first thing that catches the eye is the exterior of the Family Home, designed by the renowned designer Alexander Schulz. Standing on large feet and with curved side panels, the Family Home looks great. The slanted control panel is equipped with large levers for steam and hot water, a toggle switch for starting a brewing process, and two pressure gauges for brewing and boiler pressure. These controls in particular, in combination with the cup rail, are reminiscent of a motor yacht or airplane. The big technical highlight of the Reneka Family Home 1G is certainly the patented Aroma-Perfect brewing group with integrated tamping. This makes the use and purchase of an additional tamper unnecessary.
The Family Home 1G from Reneka is based on the typical principle of a dual-circuit portafilter machine, but brings a large portion of innovation. As a dual-circuit machine, the machine is equipped with just one 1.6 liter copper boiler, but can still make espresso and froth milk at the same time. Steam is constantly kept ready in the boiler, which is available for frothing. The hot water for the espresso is brought to the right temperature by the steam boiler using a heat exchanger.
While many dual-circuit machines on the market with the Faema E61 brewing group rely on technology from the 1960s, the Reneka Family Home 1G is equipped with Reneka's in-house and patented Aroma-Perfect brewing group - the result of extensive research and development. The innovative brewing group does something that is not available anywhere else: it tamps the ground coffee automatically and always perfectly after clamping! This means that, unlike all other espresso machines, there is no need to tamper before clamping and the portafilter is simply clamped in with loose ground coffee. When starting a brew, the brewing group begins to compress the ground coffee using spring bearings and water pressure. It then draws espresso at a top level. Automatic tamping is particularly useful when several and less experienced baristas want to use the machine.
