From a small shop to a major roastery
Luigi Lavazza founded the company in Turin in 1895. Initially, a small shop sold goods that were either produced on site or processed there: soap, spirits, oil, spices and, of course, coffee. By 1900, Luigi Lavazza had six employees and ran a wholesale business outside the customs border. Driven by curiosity and a particular interest in scientific connections, Luigi became increasingly involved in the product that fascinated him most: coffee. Today, Lavazza is one of the most important roasters, having established itself worldwide with years of work and a lot of passion and tradition. The idea of the perfect blend of the best varieties in the world has remained. Many different balanced blends have been created by Lavazza over time. Only careful harvesting, processing, blending and roasting produced the excellent compositions that delight many palates today. The range now includes a variety of delicious blends for every taste.
development of the highest quality
At Lavazza, quality is not "controlled" but "created". Every day, employees are committed to perfect enjoyment. Lavazza owes its consistently high quality to this simple maxim. The high quality awareness for products and processes is reflected in the areas of activity that make up Lavazza. These naturally include the passion for coffee, the home of Italy and Turin, environmental awareness and awareness of ethics and transparency, research and innovation, art, design and architecture. Lavazza not only cultivates a responsible and sustainable approach to its employees, but is also particularly committed to improving living conditions in the coffee-growing regions. Lavazza's most important project, which is still active today, is called ¡Tierra!.
Lavazza in Space
On May 3, 2015, Lavazza moved into the upper spheres. Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti was the first person in space to enjoy fresh espresso. The espresso was prepared using Lavazza's ISSpresso machine, the first space-worthy espresso machine.
