The seal of an espresso maker, a small rubber ring made of food-safe silicone, enables us to enjoy the aromatic cult drink every day. As long as the seal works perfectly, we drink our beloved espresso and pay no attention to the inconspicuous espresso maker sealing ring. But if the seal of the espresso maker becomes porous and brittle over time, the crema and full-bodied aroma of the next cup of coffee are quickly gone and it is time for a replacement part.

Sealing ring for espresso maker: A precise fit is important

The seal of an espresso maker, a small rubber ring made of food-safe silicone, enables us to enjoy the aromatic cult drink every day. As long as the seal works perfectly, we drink our beloved espresso and pay no attention to the inconspicuous espresso maker sealing ring. But if the seal of the espresso maker becomes porous and brittle over time, the crema and full-bodied aroma of the next cup of coffee are quickly gone and it is time for a replacement part.

How does the espresso maker sealing ring work?

An espresso maker, for example one from the Bialetti brand, requires a seal so that the necessary pressure for preparation is created in the lower water reservoir of the maker. The sealing ring of the Bialetti espresso maker ensures that when the upper and lower parts of the espresso pot are firmly screwed together, no hot water or steam can escape during cooking. Only under these conditions does the necessary steam pressure for perfect coffee enjoyment arise. The water is then pressed via the riser pipe through the portafilter and the espresso powder into the upper part of the espresso maker.

When do I need to change the Bialetti seal?

The steam pressure, the heat, the mechanical pressure from opening and closing and also harsh cleaning agents are factors that can affect the durability of the sealing rings. There is no rule of thumb for replacing the Bialetti seal. However, our experience has shown that replacing the rubber seal every 10 to 12 months is recommended. Under no circumstances should you wait until the espresso maker seal is brittle and hot water, steam or espresso is leaking from the screw connections of the espresso maker. In this case, we offer you various original spare parts from the Bialetti brand in our shop. A spare parts set from the Bialetti brand, for example, consists of a seal set with 3 replacement seals and a filter for the classic Bialetti Moka Express, which is made of aluminum. Discover the right sealing ring for your Bialetti and ensure a tasty coffee experience.

How do I properly care for the Bialetti sealing ring?

  • turning – Please screw the espresso maker carefully and not too tightly and make sure beforehand that the seal is correctly positioned and is not improperly squeezed in the screw thread.
  • Clean – Please do not use any harsh cleaning agents. They attack the plastic of the seal, causing it to age more quickly and making it brittle, porous and fragile.
  • Cool – Please always allow the espresso maker to cool down a little before unscrewing it. When hot, the espresso maker seal is more susceptible to mechanical damage when opening the pot.
  • Rinse and dry – Please wash the seal with cold water after making the espresso and after the cooling phase. Then dry the seal of the espresso maker with a towel, lying flat without bending it.

When purchasing a new espresso maker seal, such as a Bialetti sealing ring, please make sure that the sealing ring is the right size. We at Aromatico are happy to answer any questions you may have!
