Mount Hagen

In 1986, the idea of producing organic coffee was still unconventional and "novel". Mount Hagen had set itself the goal of producing coffee that was not only organic in quality, but also represented other values. No forests should be destroyed for the coffee, and the coffee farmers should work under good conditions. And not only that - the even more ambitious goal was to grow the coffee in Papua New Guinea. A wild country where it was difficult to find a coffee farm. Mount Hagen sent cultivation advisors to the country, which has a lot of potential for conflict due to the many rebellious tribes. It started that same year with half a container of organic coffee from the plantation near Mount Hagen. Hence the name of the brand and the logo, the bird of paradise that is on the coat of arms of Papua New Guinea.

eye level, respect and trust

Mount Hagen has not let the difficult conditions deter it from its goal. At an altitude of over 1,500 meters, under shade trees such as bananas and eucalyptus, the coffee beans are grown in small plantations without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Only the ripe coffee cherries are then harvested by hand. The Mount Hagen company works with the regional coffee farmers and farm operators on an equal footing and with a great deal of respect and trust.

Mount Hagen's formula is: Coffee = Future

The coffee farms in Papua New Guinea are assured of the purchase of beans at fixed prices in the long term. This leads to better living conditions, greater biodiversity, and better quality soil and food. The close relationship between Mount Hagen and the farmers is based on equality and respect. This means that the production of Mount Hagen's coffee beans is fair. Fair for the environment, for the farmers and then also for the customers.

13,101 kilometers from Papua New Guinea, the beans are roasted in Hamburg

The fairly produced organic beans are gently roasted and refined in the drum roaster at Mount Hagen in Hamburg. It's not just the taste of the various coffee roasts from Mount Hagen that is absolutely convincing - the story behind the beans and the respectful treatment of nature and the farmers is also what makes the brand so special. The Mount Hagen espresso has a more classic, chocolaty taste. The beans for the blend come from Papua New Guinea, Peru and Ethiopia. In addition to chocolatey notes, the golden crema and the velvety texture of the coffee are also impressive. For lovers of exciting aromas, the Mount Hagen Papua New Guinea organic roasted coffee is perfect. Spicy notes and fine acids make this single origin very special and invite you to an intense, sophisticated taste experience.
